CHECKLISTS:  MOVING CHECKLIST FOR SELLERS

Upon Signed Contract for the Sale of Your Home

Address Changes to include (but not limited to):

____Post Office, ____Schools, ____Business Contacts, ____Vendors,

____Banks, ____Charge Accounts, ____Credit Cards, ____Subscriptions,

____Friends & Relatives, ____Service Providers, ____Clubs, ____Church

Banking:

____Close Accounts, Transfer Funds, Etc. as desired

____Obtain Letters of Credit Reference from current banks & credit providers

Utilities:

Contact your utility providers to notify them of your anticipated last day of service (your scheduled day of closing).  Keep in mind that closing dates sometimes slip a day or more.  When that happens it can be a little stressful and you may forget to renotify these service providers.  Remember that until the property sale is recorded (closing) you are still completely responsible for the property in all regards.  It might be advisable to plan to tell them to terminate service one day after your scheduled closing date to give you a little breathing room.  Remember to ask for a refund of any deposits that may have been taken on initiation of service.

Service Providers:  Consider obtaining copies of any important records, transfer of prescriptions, etc.

____Moving Company:  Make final arrangements for the move to include insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, departure day, arrival day, method and time of expected payment, etc.

On Moving Day:

  • Carry enough cash or traveler's checks to cover the cost of moving services and expenses until you make banking connections in the new city.

  • Carry jewelry and important documents yourself, or use registered and insured mail or courier.

  • Plan to carry an adequate supply of necessary personal items, including prescriptions and other special medical necessities, infant care items, etc.

  • Plan for transporting pets in an appropriate manner.

  • Double check closets, drawers and shelves, the garage, and all the nooks and crannies to be sure they are empty and clean.

  • Set heating / air conditioning to a reasonable temperature to protect the house from extreme temperatures.  Make sure all appliances are turned off as appropriate.

  • Make certain all windows and doors are closed and locked.  Leave all old keys including the garage door openers and gate remotes that will be needed by the new owner with your real estate agent.
